Texas Hold ‘em Tournament in Calgary, AB to benefit Alberta Cancer Foundation | I’m All-In Against Cancer

EVENT

The Alberta Cancer Foundation’s Inaugural I’m All-In Against Cancer Texas Hold ‘Em Poker Tournament in Calgary Alberta will take place on Sunday, May 24, 2009 at the New Stampede Casino’s Big Sky Room starting at 1:00 pm. This event is to raise funds for Alberta Cancer Foundation in support of the 17 cancer centers throughout the province.

Phil GordonProfessional poker player Phil Gordon will act as the master of ceremonies for the evening event. Phil, who is renowned for the commentary he provides on televised poker matches, such as “Celebrity Poker Showdown”, Fox Network’s “Learn From the Pro’s”, ESPN website’s “The Poker Edge”, and as a reoccurring player on NBC’s “Poker After Dark”, will call the games as they are happening, moving from table to table and exciting the players and guests watching.

Joining Phil as co-hosts will be other well known, professional poker players (to be determined). They will host a “poker clinic” during the reception, prior to the start of Sunday’s tournament, for first-time players, as well as for those who would like a refresher or tips from a professional player.

In addition, local “guests” (such as radio and TV personalities, politicians, and current and former NHL and CFL players) will join each table of ten and be a target or “bounty”. Each guest designated with a “bounty” on them will present the player at the table that successfully eliminates them from the tournament. Each table of ten will play in a round robin format, with the top player remaining at each advancing to the next round to play for prizes donated by our sponsors, and down to the final winner. During the first hour of play, there will be an opportunity for players to “re-buy” into the game should they be knocked out, but wish to keep playing.

The players at the final table will be playing for various prizes, including a top prize of a $10,000 seat into the 2009 World Series of Poker in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The Alberta Cancer Foundation raises funds for the Cross Cancer Institute in Edmonton, The Tom Baker Cancer Centre in Calgary and 15 other cancer centres throughout Alberta.

Every gift is another step towards a healthier and happier tomorrow for all Albertans. Donations to the Alberta Cancer Foundation:
